Flowers bloom amid COVID-19 outbreak

Since the announcement of the first case of COVID-19 community transmission in Maryland on March 12, we have suspended all door-knocking and in-person canvassing in order to protect the health of our District 5 neighbors and our volunteers.

As a public health professional, I am also involved in COVID-19 activities. It is a pandemic and we need everyone to work together to #FlattenTheCurve. Celebrate diversity”2020 Vision – the dream continues” on Jan 19, 2020 was a celebration of the life and legacy of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. It was great to see so many people from different backgrounds come together to celebrate and appreciate diversity.

Howard County is a culturally diverse community. Thursday 1/23 was the Bushy Park Elementary School International Night, and they were representing 13 countries. The children were having so much fun learning about different cultures.

Dr. Lu attended RHHS and FQMS PTSA meetings in the week of Jan 13, 2020

Attended River Hill HS PTSA on Monday and Folly Quarter MS PTSA on Wednesday. It was great to meet so many involving parents.

Both schools are promoting diversity and inclusion, and encouraging parents and students from different cultural background to share their cultures with the students.

Dr. Lu attended the “Coffee and Conversation with Board of Education” on Jan 11, 2020.

Dr Lu expressed her appreciation for BOE’s hard work to the BOE members at the meeting. She shared her views over various school education issues such as data accuracy, school and transportation planning, budget, technology. She also had the opportunity to listen to the concerns expressed by other county residents in attendance of the meeting. Those issues include Hammond addition, High School college visit, school redistricting, FY2021 budget, school maintenance, dyslexia, etc.
